Choir Practice
Hi to all of you singers out there, and the wannabees too, we need everyone!!!
Another Goldfield Alumni Chorus Rehearsal has COME & GONE! Did you COME
to help us out, or were you GONE???????? We had a great rehearsal, I wonder
what is wrong with me, because the last time we were fighting the Super
Bowl, and this time we were up against the Daytona 500, or is it 700.
I am obviously no expert. But in spite of all that, we got more of the "faithful"
to attend, and as a result we even sounded better than before, and that
is not propaganda, it is truth. Our new attendees were: Cindy Christensen
(mate of Scott), Connie Kraft, Nancy Suydam (friend of Bill Rutledge), Jayne
McCutcheon, Carolyn Bygness, (these last two drove hundreds of miles to
join us, bless their hearts) Joe Skinner, and my neighbor Dean Schipull.
They may be a talented bunch, because they helped us a lot. I must have
used my "teacher voice" cause Joe was even well behaved. Becoming a grandpa
must have cooled his jets, thank goodness! He is one of our 'experienced'
dudes, a barber shopper.
Great to have sopranos this time, and we will never again say we don't need
them, cause we DO! Just one message to Larry Larson, OK, the bad back routine
worked this time boomer, but next time, we are all coming to YOUR house
if you don't come and also bring your lovely wife. Deal????????
I am wondering if we can have a picture taken next time by Alan, to see
if we can have so many there that we don't fit in the picture, lets go Goldfield,
fill the chairs contest, and if we do the visitors on June 22, 2002 will
be the all time winners. See you the first Sunday in March, which is March
3, at 4:00pm.

WE CAME. WE SANG. WE CONQUERED!
And where were the rest of you? We missed you, and the next rehearsal
is Feb. 17th at 4:00 at the Presbyterian Church. In the female section,
only Altos showed up, and we got real snooty and said "so who needs sopranos
", but after about 20 measures, we decided WE did! Just a bit too much
harmony.
Alan came over, stood behind me to take a picture, and I said, " for 23
years the Eagle Grove Eagle has been putting my behind in the paper, while
I directed the chorus, and that is going to stop now Alan.'" He ignored
me. Egad.
The faithful few who showed up were L-R, '59 Maureen Whyte Buhr Cameron,
'74 Janice Bygness Rowan, '64 Scott Whyte, '49 Beryl Reichter, '68 Sonna
Axon Johnson, '61 William Rutledge, '48 Alice Folkedahl Ruiter, '67 Dennis
Rasmussen, '67 Lynne Larson Malloy, '59 Caroline Nesheim Lund, and our
beloved pianist, '53 Linda Wheeler Babcock. They are now in the hall of
fame for 2002. Lets add at least 10 more names to the list by Feb. 17,
OK. ? These people will admit we sound pretty good for the shape we are
in, and we will be so happy to see new faces at the next rehearsal. Irving
Berlin wrote a lot of neat songs, and you will love singing them. We have
a lot of unison, some harmony, and even some thrilling sounds now and
then. My mom, Pearl Whyte, is visiting my sister Nancy in Florida. When
she called today I was bemoaning the fact that I had quite accidentally
set the first rehearsal for Super Bowl Sunday. She said "I will make a
box of homemade fudge for every male that shows up today", and you can
tell them that. I did, and boy did the girls cry and complain!!!!! Larry
Larson called, long distance and promised to be here next time (we're
holding you to it boomer) and said he couldn't come today because he was
working at "..........church..." today. Right Larry!! Actually, we will
take you any time we can get you! Ditto to the rest of you. Thanks to
the kids who wrote by email and said send me music, and we are. I asked
about paying for all of those extra copies, and two of the chorus members
handed me 20 dollar bills, so don't we love Goldfield folks... they are
generous, and fun, and just good people. Thanks for the bucks.
Are you bored yet?

We
would like to thank the 235 alumni that printed their own invitations
and responded by email. That has really helped out. The rest of the invitations
were mailed out on Tuesday Jan. 15th. I would like to thank Scott & Jane
Whyte, Tom & Sandy Stevenson, Dean & Jayne Schipull, Jim & Sonna Johnson
and Kim McCollough for helping me stuff the envelopes Sunday afternoon.
We had quite an assembly line stuffing 1000 envelopes in a little over
an hour. Please take a few minutes and visit the missing Alumni page and
the previous staff page and see if you recognize anyone. We are down to
just 14 Alumni and 34 teachers left to find.
Plans for the June 22, 2002 Goldfield Alumni Banquet are under way. Therefore,
it's "Sing along with the Goldfield Alumni Chorus" time once more. Talent
is not a prerequisite when performing with this motley crew, we just make
a joyful noise. Won't you join us? The director, Maureen (Mimi) Whyte
Cameron, is a bit crabby at times, but eventually loosens up. She has
chosen 100 Years with Irving Berlin for our stellar performance. There
will be great songs and a great God Bless America finale. Who can join
us? Goldfield alumni and spouses, friends who can carry a tune, children
over 18, and any Schwanns Salesman who happens to drive through town on
a Sunday afternoon. Rehearsals will accommodate old foggies who need their
Sunday afternoon naps, cause we won't start until 4:00 in the afternoon,
on the first and third Sundays. Circle these dates. Feb. 3rd & 17th, Mar.
3rd & 17th, Apr. 7th & 21st , May 5th & 19th , June 2nd & 16th . Hope
to see you Feb 3rd at 4:00 at the United Presbyterian Church, 220 E Oak
St, Goldfield. Any questions can be answered by reaching Mimi at (515)
825-3394.
We would like for you to remember in prayer, the families of three alumni
that have passed away recently. '23 Margaret Axon Milota, '57 Richard
Trotter, and '60 Karen Fevold Lerdal. I would also ask, that if you know
when others pass on, that you would please drop me an email and let me
know.
Thanks!!
Alan McCollough
Glad to
see that many of you are now visiting the site and looking around. We
keep webstats on
the site so we know how many visitors we are getting each day and it really
makes the work worth while to see that so many of you are popping in.
Alan has
been working diligently to hunt down the last of the missing addresses
for Goldfield Alumni and we don't have too many left!! When you have a
chance, pop over to the Missing Alumni page
and see if you can help Alan make this part of the site go away!!!
You
might also want to take a peek at the Sports Page
if you haven't visited it recently. We've added a piece on the 75-76 Boys
Basketball team that made it to Sub-State competition. Check it out next
time you visit.
